IIHF Notice: Confirmed Forged Insurance Document in Circulation
The Irish Inflatable Hirers Federation (IIHF) has confirmed that a forged insurance document has recently been circulated within the inflatable hire sector.
The document was presented to give the impression that inflatable hire was insured under a policy — however, the insurer has verified that the document is not genuine and does not provide any cover for inflatable amusement devices.
This development makes the issue of insurance misrepresentation even more serious.
Insurance is only valid for the activity that is accurately declared and accepted by the insurer.
Presenting a forged or altered insurance document is insurance fraud under Irish law and may also constitute a criminal offence.
If there is an incident or injury involving an inflatable that is not properly insured, the insurer will refuse cover, leaving the operator personally liable and the event organiser fully exposed.
The IIHF is now working with relevant parties to ensure awareness of this issue and to protect the integrity of legitimate operators who hold valid insurance.
Before hiring or accepting an inflatable at any event:
- Request a copy of the operator’s insurance certificate.
- Confirm in writing that inflatable hire is included in the insured activity.
- Verify that the certificate is issued directly by a recognised insurer or broker.
- Check that all equipment has current safety certification under the new Irish law (commenced 2 October 2025).
This vigilance protects children, communities, and compliant operators.
If you are in any doubt about an insurance document or an operator’s compliance, you can contact the IIHF for confidential advice and verification at info@iihf.ie.
