Dear Member,
It has come to our attention that some operators may not be accurately declaring the full number of inflatables they own or operate when arranging insurance.
I need to remind you that under-declaring equipment is considered a material misrepresentation to the insurer.
This is extremely serious and can have significant consequences.
1. Your policy may be invalid from inception
If an insurer determines that incorrect information was supplied when the policy was taken out, they may consider the contract void from the start.
In that situation, no claim—no matter how genuine—would be covered.
2. Claims may be declined
If a claim arises and the insurer discovers discrepancies between the declared number of inflatables and the actual number in use, they may refuse indemnity.
This leaves the operator personally liable for all legal costs, compensation, and damages.
3. It places the entire IIHF insurance scheme at risk
The IIHF scheme operates on honesty and accurate declarations.
Under-insurance by a minority puts pressure on premiums for everyone and undermines the integrity of the scheme.
4. It is unfair to compliant operators
Most members declare their equipment honestly.
Those who do not are effectively gaining an unfair financial advantage at the expense of others.
A Direct but Necessary Reminder
Insurance only works when the information provided is full, accurate, and truthful.
Under-declaring inflatables is not a small issue — it is a breach of the insurance contract and may also be viewed as dishonest behaviour by the insurer.
If a serious injury occurs and the insurer refuses cover due to misrepresentation, the consequences for the operator can be life-changing.
What You Must Do Now
If you believe your declaration may not be accurate, you should:
- Review the number of inflatables you own or operate
- Declare the full and correct list to Arachas
- Inform the IIHF of the updated figures if needed
There is no penalty for correcting your declaration, but failing to correct it may expose you to enormous personal risk.
